Qingtianzu robot made its debut at Shanghai Grand Theater, participating in a musical event as the "Cosmic Art Historian," exploring the fusion of technology and art and new applications in cultural consumption scenarios.
On May 2, at the "Comet Party" cast sharing session held in Shanghai for the Shanghai Grand Theatre concert version of the musical *Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812* (hereafter "The Great Comet"), a special "guest" made its debut—the Qingtianzu "Comet Expedition" A3 robot, appearing on stage as the Intelligent Performance Promotion Ambassador for *The Great Comet*, alongside the four lead actors.
As a major production set to run at the Shanghai Grand Theatre from May 15 to 24, *The Great Comet* has drawn widespread attention for its immersive storytelling and bold artistic style. Ahead of the official performances, this "Comet Party" not only gave audiences an early entry into the world of the work through interactive games, excerpt performances, and creative team discussions, but also introduced a "future perspective" through the robot, offering a brand-new way for audiences to engage with the piece.
The humanoid robot featured at the event was the Zhiyuan Expedition A3 robot from the Qingtianzu platform. At the event, A3 was given the identity of "Cosmic Art Historian." A3 was presented as an emissary arriving on Earth from a parallel dimension, observing and asking questions through the rational "eyes of a machine," exploring the love, loneliness, resonance, and regret at the heart of *The Great Comet*'s story.
Li Kewei, CMO of Qingtianzu, revealed that in the future, A3 will move across different narratives, learning about human art and emotion, and inviting audiences to approach and interact with it. This role design transforms the robot from merely a vehicle for technological demonstration into a "pre-narrative entry point" connecting audiences with the work.
Notably, this also marks the first time a robot has entered a major theater—an artistic space defined by high aesthetic and cultural standards. For a long time, public perception of robots has been largely confined to relatively standardized settings such as exhibitions, commercial performances, and in-store guided tours. This appearance at the Shanghai Grand Theatre signals that robot applications are extending from "display-oriented scenarios" into "cultural consumption scenarios."
In this process, the value demonstrated by Qingtianzu goes beyond simply providing a robotic device. More crucially, through the systematic integration of role design and content, the robot is able to blend naturally into the narrative environment. Within the context of *The Great Comet*, the "Comet Expedition" A3 is not merely a tech installation placed on display, but exists in the role of "Cosmic Art Historian"—not replacing art, but expanding the ways in which art can be experienced.
This practice further validates an industry-wide insight: the real-world deployment of robots depends not only on hardware capabilities, but even more so on the ability to deploy them contextually within specific scenarios.
In a venue like a theater—where spatial atmosphere, performance pacing, and audience experience are held to the highest standards—what the robot must accomplish goes beyond simple movements and dialogue. It also requires an understanding of the scene, alignment with the character, and coordination with the overall flow of the event.
"From the robot's on-site positioning, movement paths, and interaction frequency, to content expression and scene integration, everything requires finely tuned design and on-site coordination capabilities," Li Kewei stated. This, he noted, is exactly the core strength Qingtianzu brings as a platform—through end-to-end RaaS (Robot-as-a-Service) operations, humanoid robots can truly step out of the laboratory and integrate into complex, real-world scenarios.
Rather than simply being an attempt to "bring a robot into a theater," this is better understood as an applied validation of "how robots enter complex real-world scenarios." It marks a shift in which robots are moving from single-point showcases toward systematic operations—from merely "functional" to "effective," and onward to being "adaptable across different contexts."
