Chinese electric motorcycle brand HORWIN started in Europe a decade ago, and now ranks among the top 10 exporters. It has launched the 99,800-yuan SENMENTI ONE with a 400V high-voltage system, compatible with EV fast charging, hitting 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.
In 2016, Zhou Wei took his company to Germany. At the time, he was building motorcycles in Changzhou. The Chinese market wouldn't let him sell, so he went to Europe to sell instead. Ten years later, HORWIN ranked first in Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands in highway electric motorcycle registrations.
China is the only country in the world with a long-term policy restricting or banning motorcycles, a policy that has now been in place for more than two decades. Under this policy pressure, the product ecosystem for high-end electric two-wheelers in China has essentially been fractured. The demand itself never disappeared; it was simply forced to accumulate.
Zhou Wei said: "Many people feel that electric two-wheelers either feel too utilitarian, like they're built for food delivery, or too limited, so you feel uneasy once you leave the city." Cars are too congested, e-bikes are too slow, and gas motorcycles feel too traditional. These three statements are like three locks, trapping a group of users who have spending power, have a desire to ride, but can't find a product that fits them.

Starting from Europe, tackling the hardest market first!
In 2016, HORWIN was founded in Changzhou, but Zhou Wei chose not to enter the Chinese market first. The company got its start in Germany and gradually established a foothold in European markets such as Austria and the Netherlands, ranking first in highway electric motorcycle registrations in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and other countries for multiple consecutive years.
There's a statement behind this that cuts to the core: "If we can make it in the hardest place, then going anywhere else becomes much easier."
The European market has extremely stringent requirements for vehicle safety certification, emissions standards, and technical specifications, and consumers there are far more sensitive to quality than in most emerging markets.
For the first six years, the company took no external funding and used its own capital for R&D and operations. Zhou Wei said the team always insisted on thinking through three things before making a move: "You have to build the vehicle, be able to sell it, and be profitable while selling it." All three conditions holding simultaneously is far harder than any one of them alone.
HORWIN now has nearly 1,000 dealer stores worldwide, covering more than 750 cities, and has ranked in the top ten for Chinese electric motorcycle exports for multiple consecutive years. "Born in China, grown in the world" is a summary of the actual path taken, not a marketing slogan.
The 400V platform—this bike's strongest hand!
The SENMENTI ONE is defined as the world's first 400V high-voltage super electric motorcycle. This isn't marketing rhetoric; it's a genuine technological watershed.
Zhou Wei explained the significance of 400V with an analogy: charging a low-voltage e-bike is like drinking water through a straw—no matter how carefully or urgently you sip, the speed is limited by the straw's diameter, not by your intent. 400V, on the other hand, is like turning on the faucet and catching the water in a basin—the recharging speed is on an entirely different order of magnitude. At the same power requirement, higher voltage means lower current, lower line losses, faster charging, and a higher efficiency ceiling for the entire electrical system.
Specific specs: a 16.9kWh ternary lithium battery, 300km of combined urban range, support for automotive DC fast charging—10 minutes of charging delivers 100km of range, and 30-plus minutes delivers 200-plus kilometers. No adapter or proprietary protocol is needed; it plugs directly into any automotive DC fast charger.
Over the past decade, electric vehicles have built a massive DC fast-charging network worldwide. The SENMENTI ONE is natively compatible with automotive DC fast-charging protocols, so there's no need to build its own charging network—users simply charge at existing EV charging stations.
Traditional electric motorcycles lose nearly 30% of energy through their wiring and connection solutions. The SENMENTI ONE, through its self-developed automotive-grade 400V high-voltage platform, highly integrates the three-electric system (battery, motor, and electronic control) with the chassis, using unified rigid connections to dramatically reduce losses. On the performance side, the bike does 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 200 km/h, putting it on par with liter-class gas motorcycles. Bosch ABS and a robot-architecture domain controller serve as the foundational configuration for safety and intelligence.
There's also one more detail: 3kW of external power output. With 16.9 kWh of battery capacity and 3kW of external discharge capability, you can cook hotpot, connect speakers, watch movies, or charge other vehicles. With a traditional gas motorcycle in the outdoors, you'd have to light a fire to get hot water. With an electric motorcycle, you just plug in your appliances directly.
The Chinese market is opening up, but it's a uniquely difficult problem!
The global motorcycle market adds nearly 60 million new units each year, with an existing fleet of over 1 billion vehicles, and the market size is projected to approach $100 billion by 2030. Current electrification penetration is under 10%, meaning more than 90% of the growth potential has yet to be covered by electric solutions.
By comparison, China's new-vehicle electrification rate has already reached 70%. Putting those two numbers side by side: the electrification of the global motorcycle market is still in its very early stages.
The wave of electric vehicle exports has brought three layers of change. Consumer awareness of electric mobility has been rapidly educated on a global scale, with overall expectations for range, charging, and intelligence raised across the board. Second, the spillover effect of battery, motor, and electronic control technology has begun to benefit the two-wheeler space—high-voltage platforms, high-energy-density cells, and intelligent domain controllers, technologies that previously only appeared in automobiles, are now being adopted by more two-wheeler manufacturers. Third, grid upgrades and charging infrastructure construction around the world are opening the physical conditions for large-scale electric motorcycle adoption, with infrastructure funding driven primarily by the EV industry and electric motorcycles plugging directly into it.
The Chinese market is the outlier. Globally, China is the only country with a motorcycle ban/restriction policy, now in place for more than two decades. China possesses the world's strongest electrification technology base and supply chain—the full-chain capability in raw materials, battery cells, electronic controls, and vehicle manufacturing all reside here—but the domestic high-end electric motorcycle market has been suppressed for years by policy barriers, leaving the entire high-end segment essentially empty. HORWIN chose to go overseas first. Since it couldn't be validated domestically, it went to Europe to validate it.
Domestic demand hasn't disappeared. The SENMENTI ONE is priced at 99,800 RMB, roughly the same as an entry-level sedan. Zhou Wei said: "When you drive a car, you're always inside a sealed metal box. On two wheels, you can feel the wind slipping through your fingers."
The bike makes a clear distinction in its definition: "It's neither a battery-swap version of a gas-to-electric conversion, nor a beefed-up version of an e-bike." Gas-to-electric conversions retain the original fuel vehicle's hardware framework, with nearly unchanged riding logic. E-bike upgrades pile on more range and features on top of low-speed commuter platforms, with utility as the dominant attribute. The SENMENTI ONE is redesigned from the ground up at the architecture level, preserving the core of what makes motorcycle riding fun, while making it quieter, more responsive, and benchmarking its intelligence and charging experience against automotive standards.

The SENMENTI ONE is a product, but what HORWIN wants to do is much bigger than this bike.
Zhou Wei mentioned that the current 400V high-voltage platform and the six-generation skateboard chassis can extend in the future to two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, personal watercraft, ATVs, UTVs, and even aircraft. Two- and three-wheelers correspond to urban commuting and short-distance travel; four-wheel recreational utility vehicles correspond to off-road and outdoor scenarios; personal watercraft and ATVs serve resort and outdoor sports contexts; UTVs are heavy-duty vehicles balancing agricultural, industrial, and adventure use. The immediate focus is on the two-wheeler and four-wheel recreational utility vehicle markets.
All these categories share the same high-voltage electrical architecture and thermal management logic. The chassis forms differ, but the reuse rate of core technology modules will progressively unlock value as the category line expands. Once a proven high-voltage electrical architecture and thermal management system is reused across different vehicle types, development costs decline through economies of scale, and the accumulated technology deepens with each new category validated.
HORWIN's current dealer network of nearly 1,000 stores worldwide is one of the foundational elements of this expansion logic. "Becoming a global technology pioneer in mobility" points strategically toward a cross-vehicle platform company positioning, not just a motorcycle brand.
The leap from one motorcycle to multiple vehicle categories is a long road. Technology reusability is one thing; market entry is another. Each category carries its own certification systems, competitive landscape, and user habits. HORWIN's current achievements have been built in the relatively niche segment of European highway electric motorcycles. Entering more categories requires not just platform technology but also the accumulation of operational capabilities across each category.
